Definitely not the best picture ever. I thought it was funny, how many coins I’ve collected since moving to Bellevue. In Seattle, I had to pay for laundry, so I rarely had quarters just lying around. And now I don’t know what to do with them, they are just collecting..

There is a courtyard between my apartment building and the next. In the courtyard is this bench with a trellis thing over it and these trees growing around it. I think it’s a really nice scene.

It was sunny outside, but I was in the shade, so I tried the shade white balance mode. I really like the added warmth in the bench achieved by changing the white balance. The bench is definitely not that vibrant and warm-looking in real life.

I have this sword stand with 3 katana like swords on it. I needed a picture for today so I decided to see what angles might be interesting here.

Christina and Jason gave me these herbs as an apartment warming gift. (Thanks!) I love that the planter is shaped like a tea cup.

I think this is a fun picture because you don’t get a sense of scale. When a person sees they tea cup they may think of normal tea cup sizes. Something that’s only a few inches tall. However, this planter is like 8-10 inches tall.

Tonight, I met up with a friend from U of I (he’s interning at MSR for the summer). We went to get dinner at Chinooks in the Interbay-ish area. He’s only been in Seattle for a month, so I wanted to show him something different than what you get in Illinois. Chinooks has pretty decently priced fresh fish entrees and the location is neat since it’s right on Salmon Bay. I believe part of the docks are available for people to drive their boats in and dock for dinner.

We walked around the docks a bit after dinner and I used my phone to take this picture of the boats. The image didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted it to. I couldn’t figure out what angle I needed to be at. I wanted to get a picture that showed all the masts of all the different ships. However, I don’t feel like it turned out that way. I feel like the focus is too much on the nearest two boats… Especially with the text there.

Tonight, I had a bunch of people come over for some Chocolate fondue. Here is a picture of the spread we had. There were a lot of people around the table and I didn’t want to make anyone move so I could take a picture, so I had a limited point of view for the image. Even though I didn’t get to move around a lot to take this picture, I think it turned out pretty well.

I had another idea for a picture for today, but it was too dark outside by the time I had gotten my camera. So I had to find a different subject. I hadn’t taken a picture of the Kinect Ship Party shot glasses yet… so here they are.

They are sitting on top of a bookshelf so I thought the bottom-up point of view was an interesting one. I tried one straight on, but it wasn’t as interesting.

Tonight, I got tickets for the Sounders game! While I’m definitely not the biggest soccer fan in the world, I still was excited to go. The game was a lot of fun, I think I liked it more because it was pretty high scoring for a soccer game. The score ended up being 4-2 (Sounders won)! The other interesting thing about soccer, is that since the clock doesn’t stop, it’s a fairly quick game, unlike baseball, football, and hockey for example, which are about 3 hours long each.

Anyway, I think I had more fun taking pictures of the band than the game. I think the game would have been fun to take pictures of if I was closer to the field. There’s only so much you can do with a fixed point of view (since I was at my seat) and the telephoto lens that came with my camera.

I chose the above picture for my picture of the day because I thought it turned out well. There’s the focus on the trumpet, the reflection of the crowd on the trumpet and the bokeh effect on the rest of the band in the background.

Below are a few other pictures I took. For the full set of images (that I liked) from the game, click here.

The first picture is really interesting because I had, again, forgotten to check my white balance setting. It was set to tungsten. But I really like the way this accident turned out. The colors for the team are green and blue and the exaggerated blue tone to the image adds to the theme.

The second picture here is of the goalee of the Red Bulls kicking streamers off the field. It was just after our first score of the 2nd half. I was amused by the goalee kicking the streamers away, so I had to capture an image of it.

I decided to take a picture of my wine rack. I used my 50mm manual focus so it’s a little blurry. Nothing else special here.

On the longest day of the year, I went out on my balcony to get a picture of Mt. Rainier. (And yes, after moving, I still have a view of Mt. Rainier.)

There’s also this tree right outside. I tried as much as I could to get it out of the picture, but this is the best I could do.
