Week 19 – May 7, 2014 – May 13, 2014

This week, I didn’t even think the food was worthy of a picture. I was running out of time to cook something this week and was trying to figure out what I could make that was quick. Since I had just ordered and received meat thermometers in the mail, I decided grilling a steak would be good. That way I could test out my new thermometer and grilling counted as my cooking for the week. So that’s what I did, I grilled a steak. I was going to make some mashed potatoes to go with it (from a package, not from scratch), but I was even too lazy to do that… That’s why I didn’t take a picture. My plate looked ridiculous with just a slab of meat on it and some A1 sauce. Oh that’s right, I didn’t even do a spice rub or a marinade or anything – that’s how lazy I was this week. But I did learn that my meat thermometer worked.

I bought these two:

  • Weber – bought this primarily for meat
  • Taylor – bought this, since it’s water proof, I’m hoping I can use it for coffee/espresso/steaming milk/etc to make sure each is at the right temperature.

Week 18 – April 30, 2014 – May 6, 2014
Made on May 5, 2014

Keeping up with my cooking once a week has begun to get harder. With two frisbee games every weekend and then 2-3 Tae Kwon Do classes, all the time I had to cook is disappearing. This week, I decided to keep it simple by making some tacos for Cinco de Mayo. I used a McCormick taco meat spice blend and just chopped up some veggies. No recipe was used. This is just the way I make tacos when I’m in a hurry.

Week 17 – April 23, 2014 – April 29, 2014

This week I decided to make a dessert. I’ve had this recipe for a Caramelized Banana Pudding pinned to my recipes Pinterest board for a long time, so I finally decided to try it.

I had never made a caramel sauce before, so that I was interesting to try. There was definitely a point where I just wanted to eat the caramel sauce and forget the rest of the recipe, but I eventually continued on. I have to say, the picture from definitely looks better than the version I made. I couldn’t find vanilla wafers. It was the most surprising thing. So I ended up deciding to try lady fingers as well as some wafer crisps (like what a wafer ice cream cone is made of). I liked the crisps over the lady fingers. I don’t think vanilla wafers would have made much of a difference. I’m glad I tried it, and now I can move it from my Pinterest board.

Week 16 – April 16, 2014 – April 22, 2014

This week, I made Brioche with Prosciutto, Gruyère, a recipe from Food & Wine. It was delicious! The ingredients were straight-forward to find. Since it involved eggs and I was eating alone, I decided to only make two slices at a time. The first night that I made this, I made everything from scratch, including the salad. but I ended up making multiple servings of the salad. So that way, the following nights, I just needed to toast the bread and fry the eggs and put it all together. It was super simple and easy to make. I would love to make this again.
