I took more pictures of ornaments in the morning. I didn’t want to take these pictures at night because there was no light coming in from the window and I figured the shutter speed would be too slow.

I didn’t like the way the pictures turned out. There was tons of light outside, but not enough passing through the glass to brighten it up. So I decided to try some post-processing with Lightroom. The coolest thing I was able to do was lower the exposure in the background and the brighten the colors on the ornament. The above image is the result. You can see the original here.

What I really like is that the post-processing did not make the image look unnatural.

This is actually an image of a hand blown glass ornament that’s hanging from the ceiling via fishing line. I like this picture because at first glance it’s hard to tell what you’re looking at, and because of that, you’re drawn into the image, looking for clues, trying to figure out what this is. Then you notice the shadow beneath the ornament, which sort of gives the view some idea as to how far from the wall the ornament is. Then one might notice the line near the left of the image, which shows where ornament is, in relation to the corner of the room. Finally, one might see a line going through the shadow of the ornament, which is actually the fishing line going down towards the next ornament on the line.

I have this tiny swarovski crystal frog. I like the way light reflects off of it. I think I might try taking pictures of this again one day, when I have better lighting.

Also, yay! 100 down!! Only… 265 to go…

I’ve had this pen since high school. It was given to me as a gift. And not only is it a pen with glass neck, but it’s one of those pens that require you to use an ink well. I can barely write 2 letters without having to get more ink with this pen.

I didn’t have a lot of time tonight to think of a picture idea so I grabbed the pen and placed it on the stove. The stove has a black ceramic top. It provided the perfect reflecting surface for me to be able to take the pictures. I did some minor post-processing to bring out the colors better and here you are.

More glass.

I liked how the glass vases were reflecting on the glass table top. I also liked the bright colors of the vases.

This is another item made by Wilk in his glassblowing classes. I wanted to see if I could do something more than just take a picture of the vase. I decided to try a top down picture.

UPDATE (3/2/11 9:27PM) – Wednesday, Gizmodo released their newest photo challenge. The idea is to take a picture of an object from an unusual angle such that it’s unidentifiable. But you have to have taken the picture since the contest was announced, which was at 11:40AM Wednesday and I took this picture on Tuesday night. I think I might take another picture like this before the contest is over and actually submit something this time.

UPDATE (4/25/11 2:43PM) – I decided I should post links to the results of the challenge as well. Overall results. My image.

Wilk is taking glassblowing classes. This a paperweight he made (not sure how long ago). I really like this one because of the dichotomy between the blue on the left and the reddish color on the right. I feel like the blue is represents water and the red side represents fire. (However, that’s just my interpretation of the colors.) I also really like the bubbles inside the paperweight and the way it refracts the colors.
